The Tenth Convocation of the Central University of Tamil Nadu, graced by the President of India as chief guest. We directed, shot and documented a ceremony held to national-protocol standard — where you get one take.
01The Brief
A central university's tenth convocation, with the President of India in the chair.
The Central University of Tamil Nadu, Thiruvarur — NAAC A+ — held its Tenth Convocation on 3 September 2025 at its Multipurpose Auditorium. The chief guest was the President of India, with the Governor of Tamil Nadu and the Lt. Governor of Puducherry on stage.
7Dots was brought in for exactly one job, at the highest possible stakes: direction, photography and film of the entire ceremony.
When the President is on stage, there is no second take.
Problem
A presidential event runs on protocol, not on a shot list you control. Fixed positions, security cordons, a schedule that does not wait for a missed frame. The coverage has to be flawless the first time, and invisible while it happens.
Plan every frame in advance, then disappear.
Solution
We pre-planned the coverage against the ceremonial run of show — arrival, procession, the address, the medals, the group portraits — so every camera knew its position before the motorcade arrived. Discreet on the day, complete in the edit.

A ceremony held to national-record standard.
Presidential bodyguard, marigold and white-rose backdrops, the university's maroon-and-gold stoles — the room carried the weight of the occasion, and the coverage had to match it without ever getting in the way.

The portraits a university keeps.
The convocation's formal group photographs — faculty, and the graduands with the President — are the images that outlive the day and hang in the university's own record. Composed and lit for a hundred-plus people under a marquee, in the minutes protocol allowed.
