A cancer awareness marathon for Dharan Hospitals, built from a name up: a ribbon that becomes a runner, a lakeside course in Panamarathupatti, and 4,000+ people wearing the identity at dawn.
01The Brief
A hospital wanted to talk about cancer without a single hospital corridor in sight.
Dharan Hospitals, Salem, wanted a cancer awareness campaign that people would choose to join rather than sit through. The answer was a marathon — 27 October 2024, at Panamarathupatti, a natural lake region on the outskirts of Salem.
We named it The Run. Direct, memorable, and carrying both motion and metaphor — because for a cancer patient, endurance is not a sporting concept.
Awareness campaigns get nodded at. They rarely get sweated for.
Problem
Posters about early detection are agreed with and forgotten. The brief needed the message inside an experience people would train for, photograph, and ask to repeat — which is a brand problem before it is an event problem.
The reason plus the action.
Solution
The identity is a two-part equation. The cancer ribbon is the reason. The sprinting figure is the action. Fused, the runner bursts out of the ribbon's loop — awareness converted into motion.
Themed Run with Nature. Run for a Cause., the event put healing through movement at the centre of the campaign, and the lakeside course made the point without saying it.

The reason + the action
02The Mark, Warmed Up
From black ribbon to sunrise.
The construction starts sombre — a black ribbon, a grey runner. Then the palette does the emotional work: first a teal-to-blue gradient for trust and freshness, then the final form, a sunrise of layered stripes inside the ribbon. A hard subject, handled with warmth, vitality and trust rather than dread.
The stripes then become the system: jersey graphics, medal ribbons, gantry skins and social frames all carry the same sunrise.

03Three Routes
21.1K, 10K and 6K — mapped like posters, not like PDFs.
Each distance got its own route map built over an aerial of the actual road through the forest: start point, U-turn, landmarks a Salem runner would recognise by name. Useful enough to navigate by, designed enough to share.

04The Kit
The identity had to survive being worn, sweated in and photographed four thousand times.
Race jerseys in the event teal with the sunrise across the chest. Visors, totes, drawstring bags — race kits specified environment-first, because a run themed around nature cannot hand out landfill.
Registration promised the full stack plainly: t-shirt, e-certificate, medal, bag, breakfast — and a ₹21 lakhs prize pool to make the racing serious.

05The City Knew
Billboards, bus shelters, standees — Salem was told at street level.
Out-of-home carried the runner across the city: billboards on the highway, backlit bus shelters with QR registration, cut-out standees naming individual runners as heroes. Social ran countdowns, prize announcements and route reveals in the same system.

06Race Day
27 October, before sunrise, Panamarathupatti.
Start-line scenography, confetti cannons at the gantry, GO AHEAD wayfinding down the forest road, a finisher wall, testimonial booths and interactive zones. We directed, shot and cut it in real time — stories went out while runners were still on the course.
Afterwards, a post-run digital gallery with AI-powered photo tagging, so every one of the four thousand could find themselves at the finish.
